Babar Azam’s hundred at Gaddafi Stadium was not a statement innings in the modern sense. It was a long occupation against a county attack that bowled dry and waited for a mistake. He did not offer one until the celebration.

Selectors travelling with the side said the innings would be filed under “clarity,” not nostalgia. The next Test window is eight weeks away.
