Pakistan’s Super 4 meeting with Sri Lanka in Dubai began as a must-win on paper and became a must-finish in the middle overs. At the first drinks break the innings was ahead of a par score that the coaching staff had set at 165.
The bowling question
If Pakistan post 175 or more, the death-overs group will be asked to defend a total they failed to protect twice in the group stage. The captain said the plan was “fewer boundary balls, not fewer risks.”
A win tonight all but seals a semi-final. A loss sends the equation back to net run rate and Thursday’s remaining fixture.
